Curriculum

Lana is a proud to be Steinway Educational Partner.

Lana helps piano students cultivate a lifelong connection to the arts. Her students build a strong foundation of classical keyboard technique that supports making music in many styles.

Because piano competency depends on exposure to a wide variety of musical expressions, many genres appear in the course of studies. Musical theater, pop songs, concert music, and folk traditions from around the world are presented throughout studies.

“I love that you are creative with the way that you teach rather than being rigid in style.

I love that you adjust your language to ‘reach’ the boys and speak to them on a level that makes sense to them. I’m sure that it makes learning piano less intimidating or boring for them.”
— Jamie

Practice

Progress requires practice. Lana approaches practice expectations based on studies of habit formation and goal-setting.

Students and caregivers clarify their definition of success, and with a shared understanding of skill development, Lana helps them define the practice habit that is necessary to achieve those goals.

Caregivers help encourage and sustain student habits. Students address themselves with patience and respect while pursuing excellence.

“Lana has gone above and beyond my expectations.

She is super patient with my three boys and tailors lessons to their personalities.”
— Hugh
“My biggest concern was that my kids were tone deaf or didn’t have musical ability.

I realized through the lessons that they are not tone deaf and just needed musical training.

I enjoy seeing them develop skills and confidence.”
— Alice

Adult Chorister

After years dedicated to singing, many choristers want to improve their reading, ear training, and understanding of the bigger picture. This offering combines beginner piano lessons with music theory and score analysis based on works they previously sang or learning for a concert.

“I approached Lana to give me lessons with a focus on harmony and musical structure, rather than facility in playing. (A difficult curriculum request, I think.)

Lana used choral pieces I was familiar with, and identified and taught me piano pieces to illustrate various concepts.

She was always patient and encouraging, and has a lovely sense of humor.

I recommend Lana as a piano and music teacher to anyone.”
— Charlie
